Fall Fundraiser! 🧡 What does composting actually do for Kansas City?

Composting creates jobs in Kansas City

KC Can Compost’s Green Core Training Program provides environmental literacy and work readiness training to individuals with barriers to employment, helping them find jobs in environmentalism. You can help underprivileged members of our community by supporting KC Can Compost.

Composting keeps trash out of our landfill

Compostable organic material makes up more than 50% of America’s waste, generally ending up in a landfill where it’s buried under trash and is not exposed to any oxygen. Instead of breaking down naturally, like it would in a compost pile, it rots and emits methane gas, becoming a threat to the environment when instead it could be a benefit. You can help keep organic waste out of landfills by supporting KC Can Compost.

Composting keeps our soil rich, air clean and water clear

When compostable organic material is sent to a landfill and buried under trash, it rots, emitting methane gas, instead of being used to build healthy soil. Healthy soil absorbs more water, allowing clean water to filter down into the impervious rock layer and replenish local springs, ponds, and lakes. You can help keep our soil rich, our air clean, and our water clear by supporting KC Can Compost.

Composting lets us grow healthy plants and food

When sent to a landfill, organic waste gets buried under layer of trash and begins to rot, emitting methane gas. But if we can keep compostable material out of the landfill, we can turn it into nutrient-filled soil that can be used in community gardens to grow fruits and vegetables that feed our friends and neighbors. You can help our community grow healthy plants from rich soil by supporting KC Can Compost.
