Whether you’re new to composting or already a waste-sorting pro, our residential drop-off program helps you take real climate action from your own kitchen.
Step 1
Become a Member
Register for your monthly membership to access any of our member drop-off locations across the KC Metro! It’s just 12.99 per month.
Residents of KCMO and Prairie Village can participate in their city-sponsored Community Compost Programs. Check out the program pages for more information.
Step 2
Get Canned
After registering, pick up your personal residential composting can at one of our convenient locations listed in your Welcome Email. Be sure to check your spam folder if you didn’t receive our Welcome Email.
Additional equipment and BPI Certified Compostable liners are available in our Supply Shop.
Step 3
Get Started
Start filling your can with compostable food waste and when it's full, take it to one of our member drop-off locations.

How it Works in Your Kitchen
With a compost collection service like KC Can Compost, residential composting in an urban setting—even in an apartment—is easy (and doesn’t stink at all)!
Chop It
Chop, dice, crack and cook your food. Anything that doesn’t go directly into your recipe (or mouth) can go into your compost can.
Drop It
Drop your food scraps, food soiled paper, and plant scraps into your compost can.
Please line your chosen compost receptacle(s) with compostable liners. Lining helps ensure cleanliness of the compost can. If you need more liners, you may purchase them on your customer portal!
Tip It
When your compost bin is full, please tie off your liners and tip it directly into your community can at one of our convenient drop-off locations.
DO NOT pull the bag out of your can as the liners may have started to decompose.
