Status: Full Time (about 30 hours per week) / Non-exempt

Program Summary

The Green Core Training Program (GCTP) provides environmental literacy and work readiness training to individuals facing barriers to employment using two nationally renowned curricula, and then helps program graduates find green jobs that are suited to their education, skills, and interests. 

There are five phases to the GCTP. First, we enable agencies and organizations to refer prospective trainees into the program. Second, through interviews, we determine which prospective trainees will be admitted in the program. Third, we run the multiweek training classes, bringing community partners and employers into the classroom to speak to the trainees. Fourth, we assist program graduates determine which jobs are of interest to them and then find and apply for those jobs. Fifth, we create partnerships with employers to facilitate the hiring of our program graduates.

Job Purpose

The Social Resource Coordinator will assist the Director of Green Core Training in implementing the GCTP at each of the five stages, listed above. The Social Resource Coordinator is responsible for cultivating relationships with referral agencies, program trainees and graduates, and employers, enabling each to achieve the goals of the program. The primary purpose of the position is to provide graduates of the GCTP with the resources they need to obtain employment in green jobs. The Social Resource Coordinator will facilitate wraparound services to meet the needs of our trainees and program graduates, providing support during their transition into new jobs and independent living. Relationships are a critical component to the retention and ultimate success for our trainees. The Social Resource Coordinator position is first and foremost one of relationship building. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with referral agencies to get prospective trainees referred into the program; cultivate and maintain an ongoing relationship with these agencies

  • Review prospective trainee applications, assist in conducting interviews to determine admission into the GCTP, and communicate with prospective trainees

  • Complete instructor training for the Roots of Success and Conover Online curricula

  • Attend the GCTP classes to help establish relationships and communication channels with trainees, enforce classroom rules, and teach classes

  • Communicate and coordinate with potential guest speakers (preferably also potential employers) to have them speak to the class

  • Help determine the procedures and distribution of stipends for trainees

  • Facilitate wraparound services to GCTP graduates, including connecting them to case managers and other services, conducting check-ins and follow-up calls and meetings, providing job transition assistance, and community networking

  • Direct the GCTP Advisory Board, made up of GCTP graduates, to provide guidance and instruction to the program

  • Communicate with potential employers to get jobs for the program graduates; cultivate and maintain an ongoing relationship with these employers

  • Responsibilities also include weekly communication check-ins; creating flyers, brochures, and social media posts; documenting communications and progress; and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • excellent interpersonal skills

  • experience working with people from diverse backgrounds 

  • experience and interest in assisting communities of concern

  • background in community engagement

  • excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • demonstrates positive leadership skills and the ability to positively influence, motivate, and encourage others to achieve goals

  • ability to work collaboratively and effectively on a small team

  • educational (teaching/training) experience preferred

  • strong organizational skills

  • skill using information technology, social media, and basic office software

Compensation

This position is a full-time hourly position; wages $18-20 per hour; approximately 30 hours per week
